Martin Luther Chan
Assistant Professor of Hebrew & Jewish Studies
Acting Director of Jewish Studies 2024-2025
Born in Hong Kong and raised in California, I came to Kentucky in 2022. I am a linguist by training, and my main area of research interest is in Semitic languages and Hebrew-Arabic comparative linguistics in particular.
Currently, I teach Biblical Hebrew language courses (Levels I, II, and III) as well as other courses pertaining to Jewish Studies and the Hebrew Bible. I also semi-regularly teach Modern Standard Arabic courses (taught with an integration of Levantine colloquial Arabic).
In addition to my native and work languages, I also speak Spanish, German, and Persian (Farsi).
